In a home hidden by a henhouse lives a sow and her precocious piglets.

This sweet new family just moved into this quaint home. Up until a couple of weeks ago, the mother, now known as Mama Janet, was just Janet. She lived at a farm not far from her new abode, spending her days sauntering in and out of the shade of her shed, plopping through pastures, and gobbling up grubs with her barnyard friends. Janet was happy with this life—a culmination of calm moments, scored by her own oinks, her buddies’ baas, and birdsong.

Then one day, everything changed, as it often does. One by one, seven piglets made their way into her world, small and squealing, chaos replacing calm, and Mama Janet replacing the sow she was before.

She gazed upon her seven sucklings with pride and gave each one a name. And thus, Holden, Dagny, Scout, Atticus, Wesley, Jo, and Lilibet were etched onto the branches of her family tree.

As she snuggled with her sweet seven, Mama Janet realized her shed was now a bit too snug. So she began the search for a new one. After some deliberation, she landed upon a cottage tucked behind a chicken coop. It was her new neighbors that sold her on this home—a thriving community of sheep, goats, donkeys, cows, pigs, and even a few humans who promised to bring tasty treats when they visited.

As Mama Janet set the home in order, surveying the site for sunbathing and slop puddle spots, her piglets set out to explore. They raced around as fast as their tiny trotters could take them, found the best scratching posts, and waded in the mud puddle made by their mother.

When their tummies began to rumble, they ran back to their mother for milk, then curled up in the sun for an afternoon nap. They liked their new home very much.

With each passing day in their new home, they grow and grow, in body, and in personality too.
Holden, Dagny, and Scout are the most extroverted of the bunch, excitedly greeting all visitors and asking the human ones for tummy rubs.

Atticus, Wesley, and Jo prefer to stay closer to their mother, making sure she’s never alone—an attribute she surely appreciates. Still, they have their fair share of fun, piling into pails and gallivanting through the grass.

The tiniest of them all is Lilibet. Though small in stature, her intellect looms large. She moves through the world with strategic charm, always finding the best chance of success.

Together, they spend their days sauntering from the shade of their shed to plop through the pasture and gobble up their grubs as a family. She knows one day they will grow up and leave for their own homes, but for now, Mama Janet is fulfilled by this life—a culmination of chaotic moments, scored by her family’s squeals, the noises of her neighbors, and birdsong.

Love,
Leila
